Forklift Stability Systems

Forklift Stability Systems were something always offered......but never talked about until Toyota introduced their SAS system of active stability.  Many people who have never looked at forklifts before see this and think it is a real safety item and believe that other forklifts do not have a stability system.

Well to set the record straight.......other forklifts do have stability systems....mechanical ones.
Hyster uses a polymer rubber block on the steer axle to help keep the steer wheels on the ground and force down the axle.

Both Toyota and Hyster are both achieving the same thing.....but a different way.  The whole point is to try to keep the steer axle in contact with the ground in the event of unsafe speeds and cornering.

So then the decision as a consumer is if you want a system that is electronically monitoring your truck and hydraulically forcing the steer axle down............or a purely passive mechanical system that doesn't require any maintenance or settings and will last the life time of the truck without any problems.

No one can deny that the SAS system works........but so does everyone else's.

The bigger problem if these systems are coming into play  ....is operator driving habits.  If your operators are getting this close to tipping the truck that these items are put to the test.......then you have bigger safety concerns to worry about.

Below is the list of components in the Toyota system.....sorry its fuzzy but you get the point....a lot of stuff.

Here is a look at the component of the Hyster system.....notice its not the plural...components.....
